The Seal and
Sea lion Proposal was presented to the North Carolina
Zoological Park as a renovation to the existing Seal and
Sea lion exhibit. The existing exhibit provided little
sun protection for the animals and patrons of the zoo
and the North Carolina Zoo sought proposals to design
a canopy over the pool and structure. Insight Architects
concept was to provide a translucent wavelike structure
over the exhibit to shield direct sunlight while maintaining
natural illumination and give the feeling of being underwater.
The entrance to the exhibit was moved closer to the main
walkway to help attract visitors to the exhibit.
